Software Engineer III, Embedded Systems/Firmware

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience integrating various sensor modalities, including accelerometers, gyroscopes, or proximity sensors.
  • Experience with sensor core architecture, sensor fusion algorithms, and estimation theory like Kalman filters.
  • Experience with Microcontroller architectures (RISC-V, ARM) and RTOS programming.
  • Experience with hardware performance profiling, power monitoring, and digital communication protocols and interfaces.

As an Embedded Software Engineer for the Pixel Sensor Core team, you will contribute to the architecture and implementation of embedded software for sensors system on Pixel devices. In this role, you will develop the core device software required for each sensor. You will utilize your expertise in real-time embedded software development, Android, and algorithms to build features leveraging sensor data in a power-friendly manner. You will suggest hardware and software architectures, collaborate across teams, and help cultivate a product-driven engineering culture.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test embedded software and sensor fusion algorithms, including heuristic and machine learning models, for mobile devices.
  • Diagnose, debug, and resolve complex hardware and software issues using operating system tools and Unix or Linux internals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to suggest hardware and software architectures and clearly communicate technical details.
  • Establish efficient testing and verification methods to ensure high-quality, reliable deliverables for the end user.
