Technical Program Manager, Merchant Shopping

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in technical program management, including managing cross-functional projects and organizational change.
  • Experience in risk management.
  • Experience in data analysis, working with databases and querying, including identifying trends, generating summary statistics, and drawing insights from quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Experience with external stakeholder communication and management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience managing large, strategic, and complex programs that span multiple organizations and deliver product area-level impact.
  • Experience working in commerce or merchant industries with a proven track record of working closely with engineers and technology.
  • Experience building teams, aligning executive stakeholders, and establish best practices that drive consistency and economies of scale.
  • Proficiency in AI/ML concepts (e.g., AI/ML infrastructure and operations, data governance) and experience using AI to solve problems and deliver impact.

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage projects of various size and scope, identifying future opportunities, improving processes and driving the technical directions of your programs.

The Shopping Merchant mission is to increase the value Google Shopping is providing to merchants, with special focus on driving more traffic and improving across the merchant base. This team is responsible for building tools and infrastructure that enables merchants across 1P and 3P platforms to maximize the value they derive from Google's surfaces and products across the merchant user journey: from onboarding, transacting, managing their business and ensuring buying experiences.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $192000 - $278000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy, define, and drive ambiguous programs and processes that address significant challenges, measured by direct business impact on product area-level Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) while using AI to lead the automation of complex processes.
  • Navigate through ambiguity to define and drive cross-functional programs in large work groups that span multiple teams, ensuring alignment.
  • Consider the bigger picture to drive long-term objectives as well as near-term deliverables, managing the impact the organization has on Google.
  • Identify and define challenges and opportunities, decompose them into work streams, and assign ownership to team members.
  • Break down complex programs and processes into easily executed components while establishing systems to identify improvements in processes, products, or services through the measurement of performance, progress, and success metrics.
