Mechanical Structural Design and Analysis Engineer, Pixel

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in structural mechanics and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation (static and dynamic), and material non-linear mechanics including plasticity, viscoelasticity, hyperelasticity, and material failure damage mechanics.
  • 3 years of experience in using simulation tools (e.g., Siemens'NX, Creo, Hypermesh, Abaqus) and testing including tensile, compression, shear, quasi-static, and dynamic.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3 years of work experience on handheld/wearable/mobile/consumer electronics devices.
  • Experience in biomedical human to device interaction.
  • Disciplined use of good modeling practices including model validation techniques.

About the job

As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.

Google's-Taiwan Simulation Center of Excellence Structural Analysis Group delivers technologies needed to enable Devices and Services group’s next-generation iconic mobile device designs. It is responsible for creating a goal for product lines, planning road maps, and aligning technology development to meet product/customer needs. We focus on high-value problems, accelerate the availability of enabling solutions for these problems by creating the necessary technologies and collaborations.

In this role, you will identify, develop and implement novel designs, materials, manufacturing, simulation and test solutions, specifically how materials work, developing analytics and experimental techniques to predict/measure their behavior under the relevant conditions that we impose in our devices. Your goal is to transition nascent technologies from inception, through feasibility, and final certification to a product-ready level of maturity.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Generate FEA/analytical models of mechanical parts, modules, and assemblies.
  • Perform static, dynamic, structural, and thermal-mechanical analysis.
  • Own and drive material characterization and testing plans to support modeling efforts.
  • Own, drive, and execute consistent methods of modeling and analysis of modules/system level across programs.
  • Drive failure analysis, root cause efforts, and design of experiments to resolve difficult problems.
