Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 4 years of experience in partnership management, business development, or a related field within the E-commerce, Retail, Marketplace, or Tech Platform sectors with a different book of business.
- Ability to communicate in English and Japanese fluently with local and regional partners, customers, and stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience interpreting complex commerce legal agreements, negotiating agreement structures, and collaborating with legal teams to draft and execute contracts.
- Ability to identify potential business opportunities, assess financial/business benefit, structure agreements, and discuss terms with strategic partners.
- Ability to quickly master technological e-commerce concepts (e.g., product feeds, API catalog integrations, merchant center setups), financial models, and product features.
- Ability to grow in a fast-paced, fluid environment and enjoys navigating ambiguity to drive impactful business results.
- Proven track record of building and managing successful commercial relationships with Marketplaces, Brands or Sub-affiliate Networks.
About the job
As a Strategic Partnerships Manager (Merchant) for YouTube Shopping, you will be responsible for driving merchant coverage and Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) expansion within a fast-growing, two-sided social commerce marketplace. You will manage, optimize, and scale strategic commercial relationships with key commerce partners, including global and local Marketplaces, Brands, Retailers, Sub-affiliate Networks, and Store-builders.In this high-impact role, you will lead the business planning, negotiation, and onboarding of marquee and high-potential merchants, connecting them to YouTube’s powerful creator and viewer ecosystem. You will execute content-driven commerce campaigns, securing exclusive merchant promotions, and streamlining merchant operations, you will contribute directly to scaling YouTube Shopping into its next phase of growth.At YouTube, we believe that everyone deserves to have a voice, and that the world is a better place when we share, and build community through our stories. Responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end commercial discussions to acquire and onboard new commerce partners, expanding Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) availability on YouTube Shopping to achieve core business Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
- Manage a standardized portfolio of strategic and Marquee merchants based on global account load guidelines to optimize resource alignment.
- Lead joint business planning cycles and navigate complex contract renewals or legal alignments to set clear growth goals and expand catalog integrations.
- Secure exclusive promotions, product drops, and attractive commission rates from merchants to power successful creator-led commerce campaigns.
- Co-ordinate major regional sales events, resolve merchant and technical catalog escalations, and consolidate partner feedback to continuously improve YouTube Shopping product features and infrastructure.
