Incident affecting Google Calendar

Incident began at 2022-10-29 07:00 and ended at 2022-11-02 22:06 (times are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)).

Date Time Description
Nov 2, 2022 10:12 p.m. UTC The problem with Google Calendar has been resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support.
Oct 31, 2022 5:24 p.m. UTC We're aware of a problem with Google Calendar affecting a significant subset of users. We will provide an update by Nov 3, 2022, 1:00 a.m. UTC detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change. The affected users are able to access Google Calendar, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior.

Due to time zone changes in Mexico taking effect from 2022-10-30 (Chihuahua specifically), your Google Calendar may:

  • Show the wrong time with the red bar on Calendar Web;
  • Have the wrong times for single events, recurring events, or appointments
  • Affect RSVP responses for recurring events**

Google engineers are working on a mitigation which is expected to complete by Wednesday, 2022-11-02 17:00 US/Pacific.

Mitigation

  • If single events appear at the wrong time, manually move the events to the right time.
  • If recurring events appear at the wrong time, you can make nearly any modification to the series, like adding a space to the summary, and it should fix the events that appear at the wrong time after the transition.

Important: Making a modification will also reset any event in the series that had specific changes so that it matches the original event. Some examples of one-off changes that will reset include single events that:

  • were moved to a different time
  • included other attendees
  • had a different summary

Attendees of recurring events may also see that events they accepted are no longer accepted or that events they declined are no longer declined.

If recurring events appear at the wrong time for some guests, any update to the original event should fix the series for the owner and all of the guests.
