Hino Motors, Ltd, commonly known as Hino, is a Japanese manufacturer of commercial vehicles and diesel engines headquartered in Hino, Tokyo. The company's predecessor, Tokyo Gas Industry, was established in 1910. It was later established as a corporate spin-off in 1942 under the name Hino Heavy Industry. Hino began producing passenger cars in 1953, although this production was limited to the 1950s and 1960s. In 1991, the company released the world's first commercially available hybrid transit bus. The company formed a business alliance with Toyota Motor in 1966 and officially became a subsidiary of Toyota in 2001, operating as one of the 16 major companies of the Toyota Group.
